Fit and Feel

One size. Made to sit low over the ears, pull toward the eyes, or make room for hair. The felt softens and settles with use.

Process

Wet felting is one of the oldest textile techniques. Wool fibers, water, soap, friction, time. No stitching. No glue. No synthetic shell.

The fibers are placed by hand, one direction at a time. The maker reads the wool and lays it by intuition. The hat sets into a single continuous form that breathes, insulates, and softens with use.

The four sensations

Each hat in the skein lives in one of four sensations.

Drift, the mind wandering and body floating as your shoulders drop. Threshold, the crossing into cold. Pulse, the heartbeat under the heat. Ground, the return to your body afterward.

Because every fiber is placed by hand, no two read the same. The sensation is consistent. The pattern is not.

Care

Hand wash cold with mild soap. Press out water without wringing. Reshape while damp and air dry flat, away from direct heat. Hang hat by the loop at the top post sauna session.

The hat will continue to felt slightly with use. The wool finding its final form. That is expected.

Why a hat in a sauna?

Wool insulates your head from the highest heat in the room. The air at the very top. It lets you stay in longer and come out more comfortable. The tradition runs from Russian banyas through Finnish, Estonian, and now Pacific Northwest sauna culture. Sauna hats are meant to be expressive and personal. Which sensation calls to you?

What size is it?

One size. Wet-felted wool is forgiving and shapes to your head with use. Our hats are made to fit over hair and sit lower on the eyes for serious heat.

Will the hat I receive look exactly like the photo?

Approximately. Each hat in Skein No. 02 is wet-felted by hand from individually placed fibers, so every piece is one of one. The sensation you chose (drift, threshold, pulse, or ground) is consistent. The specific pattern is not. Your hat is truly only yours.

Can I machine wash or dry it?

No. Heat and agitation will felt the wool further and shrink the hat. Hand wash cold, reshape damp, air dry flat.
